Swedish Candy Canes—A Taste of Nordic Heritage

The story behind Polkagris is one of resilience and innovation. In the 1830s, Amalia Eriksson of Gränna, Sweden, began crafting these iconic red and white swirled candy sticks after her husband's passing. She guarded her recipe closely, building a thriving business that captured the hearts of travelers journeying between Gothenburg and Stockholm. Her daughter continued the tradition, and soon candy-making became a cherished craft among the women of Gränna.

Today, authentic Polkagris is still handmade in the original town using Amalia's time-honored recipe. Visitors can watch artisans at work in the candy kitchens, witnessing the same techniques passed down through generations.
